Customer terms
The deal between you and us: what you get, what you pay, what happens if it runs out, and what happens to your data.
These are drafts, not legal advice.
We are not lawyers and we are not pretending to be. Everything below has to be read and settled by a qualified Australian lawyer before a single customer sees it. Anywhere a legal point is made it is marked [to be confirmed]. Nothing here creates a contract by itself. Every square-bracket placeholder has to be filled in before this goes anywhere, and we will not send a version with a placeholder still in it.
Steward Host is run by Tal Noam Ferdman, sole trader, ABN 30 262 961 643, 345c Mona Vale Rd, St Ives NSW 2075, Australia, [email protected]. Effective 16 October 2026, last updated 16 October 2026. [to be confirmed: these must be reviewed by an Australian lawyer before use]
1. Who we are and what this is
We are a small Australian business. We run a service for you that we call Steward Host. You pay two monthly subscriptions, one for your server and one for your assistant credit, and we look after the computer the assistant runs on. You do not need an account with any AI company, and you never need to handle a password or an API key. You deal with us and only us. [to be confirmed: that we are entitled to operate the KJ assistant commercially for paying customers]
We are the ones who hold the accounts with the AI providers. Those accounts are ours, and the keys stay with us. You never see them.
2. What you get, and what you pay for
One private server, for you alone. It runs the KJ assistant, and it is yours to use.
You pay us for two separate things, and they are not the same thing. We name both on every invoice and receipt, on their own line, so there is never any doubt what each one is for.
Line 1: the server subscription (the machine)
A monthly charge for your own private server, at the tier you choose from the server ladder. It is payable every month whether or not you use the assistant that month; it pays for the machine and for keeping it running, and nothing else. It does not buy any time on the assistant.
Line 2: the AI credit subscription (the assistant's work)
A separate monthly charge, at the tier you choose from the credit ladder. Each month's credit is added to your balance when that month's payment settles, and it buys the assistant's work at metered cost with a 0% credit markup. Credit belongs to your account, is used only by your own use, and does not expire, so anything left over stays in your balance. You can buy extra credit at any time as a one-off payment on top of the subscription.
The two subscriptions are separate. You can change the tier of either one, and stopping one does not stop the other.
The current amount of each line is set out on our sign-up page, which is the authoritative record of what we charge. These terms do not fix the prices; the published prices do. If those prices change, we tell you before the change takes effect, and you can cancel then if you want to (see section 12).
Automatic top-up
Buying credit is always a step you take. Automatic top-up is not in operation: nothing in the service tops your credit up on its own, and no credit is ever charged to you that you did not ask for. When your balance is low, the assistant tells you the amount and charges your card only once you say yes. If you do not top up and your credit runs out, your use stops (see section 3). If we ever switch automatic top-up on, we will tell you first and it will be yours to switch off.
As at the date of these terms, the server ladder is Assistant A$39.00, Plus A$65.00, Pro A$120.00 and Studio A$200.00 per month ex GST, and the assistant credit ladder is Starter A$10.00, Everyday A$25.00 and Power A$60.00 per month ex GST. The entry combination, the Assistant server with the Starter credit, is A$49.00 per month ex GST (A$53.90 including GST). Those figures are the published prices' to set, not these terms'.
Prepaid credit is spent on the assistant's work, not on time the server is switched on. A$10.00 of assistant credit is about 70 to 140 minutes of live talk, or about 12,000 to 210,000 messages. We count your usage on our side from the credit ledger, and you can see your balance and your usage from inside the service.
Live talk is provisional, from our own test turn, with the low end assuming about half of an open session is listening, thinking and setup; messages are provisional, from our own test turn, with the low end assuming about 10,000 input tokens of instructions and history plus a 500 token reply per exchange. Shown at metered cost with a 0% credit markup. Both figures are recomputed from the credit ledger as usage arrives.
Prices are in Australian dollars. We are registered for GST. The entry combination is quoted ex GST at A$49.00 per month, which is A$53.90 including GST, and the GST is set out on your invoice.
3. What happens when your credit runs out
Your use stops. It does not keep going and it does not run up a bill you did not agree to. You will never get a surprise invoice from us for going over. We never silently buy credit you did not consent to: nothing tops your credit up automatically (see section 2), so every top-up is one you asked for.
Your balance is shown inside the service. When it is getting low, the assistant tells you plainly. When the balance reaches zero, it tells you your credit has run out and offers you a top-up; nothing is charged unless you accept it.
If something is running when your credit reaches zero, we will finish that job rather than cut it off halfway. Then it stops and tells you what happened. [to be confirmed: the exact zero-balance, mid-task behaviour]
Buying extra credit as a one-off does not change either of your subscriptions. Moving to another credit tier takes effect at your next renewal, so the month you have already paid for is unchanged, and moving to a larger server tier takes effect when the move is made, with the difference for the rest of that month shown on your next invoice. [to be confirmed: consumer-law rules on how a top-up offer must be presented]
4. Month to month. Cancel any time
There is no lock-in, no minimum term and no exit fee. Your server plan is charged monthly and renews each month until you stop it, and your credit subscription renews the same way. Credit you have already bought is yours to use and does not expire. You can cancel whenever you like, from inside the service or by emailing [email protected]. Cancelling stops the next charge. We do not make you ring anyone or explain yourself.
5. Fair use
This is a service for one person or one household: you. Please do not:
- share your login with other people, or let other people use your plan;
- resell, rent out or sublet the service to anyone else;
- use the server to run apps, websites or services for other people. Serving the public or a third party from this box is not allowed, and if you need something like that hosted you will need to find your own host for it. (Installing software the KJ assistant needs in order to work, such as a VPN client, a browser or a tool it uses, is fine; this is your own box for your own use.);
- try to get around your credit balance or our limits, or use our service to break the law;
- use it to make or spread harmful material, or to attack, probe or overload other people's systems;
- use it for anything that costs us so much it would make the service stop working for everyone else.
If we think your use is putting the service or other customers at risk, we will tell you what we have seen and ask you to fix it. If it keeps going and we cannot fix it with you, we may pause your service. We will not do that quietly. [to be confirmed]
6. The server is ours
The machine the assistant runs on is ours. We rent it and we look after it. That means we can patch it, restart it, move it, or take it away when we need to. [to be confirmed]
When we need to do maintenance, we will tell you beforehand where we can [to be set by a lawyer: the minimum notice in days], and we will try to do it while you are asleep. If we have to restart something in a hurry (a security fix, for example), we will tell you straight away, not afterwards.
You do not own the server, and you cannot keep it or take it with you. What you own is your data.
7. Your data is yours
Everything you put into the service, and everything the assistant makes for you, belongs to you. We do not claim any ownership of it, and we do not sell it, read it for our own purposes, or use it to train anything. We hold it on your behalf and nothing more. [to be confirmed]
Our job is to stay as far away from your data as we can. It lives on your own server, not in our console or billing records; the encrypted nightly backup is the only data we hold away from your server. The only reason we ever touch it is to keep the service running or to do what you ask us to do with it. Support access happens when you ask, and every request, approval, pass and withdrawal is recorded in our append-only support log. We also still hold a standing key to the machine that works without your approval; what stops us using it is the rule in this section and the record we keep, not a lock on the machine. We will tell you when that changes.
8. Getting your data back, and deleting it
Any time you like, you can email [email protected] and ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it, or both. You do not have to give a reason.
- We will get your export to you as quickly as we can. [to be set by a lawyer: the number of business days we commit to here]
- If you ask us to delete it, we will delete it. We will confirm in writing when it is done.
- When your account ends for any reason, we keep your data for 30 days in case you come back or need it, then we delete it.
- Backup copies are deleted at the end of those 30 days too. We will not pretend a backup is gone the moment you ask. We will tell you the honest date.
Ask us at any point how a deletion or a handover is going and we will tell you what has been done and what is left.
9. If you stop paying
If a payment fails, we will email you and give you a chance to fix it. We are not going to switch you off the moment a card expires. [to be confirmed]
If it stays unpaid, we will pause your service. We will keep your data for 30 days from the pause, in case you come back, then delete it as set out above. If you need longer, just ask, and we would rather sort it out than wipe anything.
10. Support
Email [email protected]. We are a small business, so this is human support, not a call centre. We reply within one business day, on business days only, and there is no phone line. Emergencies are not covered: this is a personal assistant, not a life-support service. We will always tell you if something is broken, even when we do not know yet how long the fix will take.
11. Our responsibility to you
We will run this service with care and skill, and we will do what we say we will do. [to be confirmed]
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid us in the [to be set by a lawyer: the number of months this cap covers] before the event that caused the loss, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. That keeps a small business like ours able to keep serving you.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. [to be confirmed in writing by a lawyer: this wording is drafted to match the law, not copied from it]
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change matters to you (anything about price, your data, or what you get), we will tell you by email before it takes effect, and you can cancel then if you want to, still with no fee. [to be confirmed: notice requirements for consumer contracts]
13. Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of that state. [to be confirmed] If you are a consumer, this does not take away any right you have to bring a matter in your own state.
14. AI output
The assistant uses AI models to do its work. Output is generated by AI and can be wrong. Please check anything important before you rely on it. [to be confirmed: the model providers' terms require us to tell you this clearly]
